What a week. I feel like it took Friday forever to get here. I will start with the few highlights:
1. Our friend got his official diagnosis with regard to his cancer and it was melanoma and for the time being it seems as though the treatment plan will spare him some of the usual difficulties. We are a bit relieved and continue to hope for the best.
2. Wednesday afternoon I got a whole 3 hours to myself so I watched the movie "Begin Again" which I loved because of the music and the sappy romantic nature of it. I think I was their target demographic. I proceeded to download the soundtrack.
3. Found time to make cupcakes for daycare to celebrate Evan's birthday tomorrow.
4. Spent the day on Wednesday with Declan.
Now onto the lowlights:
1. Declan had an adverse reaction after 4 doses of amoxicilin. Jake took him to the doctor on Tuesday after he awoke with a very red face. The antibiotic was stopped and he was put on a regimen of Benadryl.
2. Benadryl didn't cut it and on Wednesday he woke up with his face pretty badly swollen. I took him back to the doctor where he was prescribed a steroid for 3 days. He is looking much better but both boys still have the sniffles and Declan is still incredibly grumpy. I hope he is feeling better for his brother's birthday tomorrow or I suspect we might have some jealous tantrums.
3. Used the last of my sick leave on Wednesday to spend the day with my poor little guy. I will have to use annual leave for any more time I take off with them or for myself until I build it back up a little.
4. I started feeling better from my cold on Wednesday but then it came back full force yesterday. I am still popping sinus pills regularly and hope that I am feeling better for the long weekend.
So yeah, things could have been a lot worse but they could have been better. I hope to never see either of my little guys' faces in the state that Declan's was on Wednesday morning. When he's a little older they will do an allergy test to determine if he is officially allergic to penicillin and all of it's derivatives. Evan handled 10 days of it just fine but sadly his eyes are still crusty in the mornings so I am not sure that tackled the whole problem. We will see at his upcoming 1 year appointment.
And SERIOUSLY, how did a whole year go by already? Evan's first year went by in a blink. I feel like Declan's went by at a more reasonable pace. It almost makes me want to have another. Almost.
