Somehow I blinked and it is already Sept 22. I am not sure how that happened! Evan's birthday was great. Kiddo enjoyed his cake until he rubbed it in his eyes and then he went straight to the bathtub. Declan had a little bit of a hard time understanding that it was Evan's birthday, not his own, and tried to commandeer all of Evan's new toys, as I expected, but overall he was very good. He now knows that his birthday is in November, not that he understands what that means exactly. Evan is on his second round of antibiotics for ear infection. His eyes have finally stopped watering but he still pokes at his ear sometimes. He is working on a whole bunch of new teeth right now and taking that in stride. The top two "one year molars" erupted last week and the bottom ones are getting close to breaking through. I think that his canines on the top might also be on their way in but it is hard to tell since he blows raspberries every time I try to feel around in his mouth. I hate to see him suffering but I really would rather just have them all come in a be done!
Declan is obsessed with the Bubble Guppies. I think I am in the minority in that I don't mind watching some of the children's programming with him (usually after dinner). I like the show so it doesn't bother me that we watch the same episodes over and over again. He went to his first gymnastics class this weekend. It was tough because he is used to the more open structure of Gymboree. He got pretty frustrated with me when I wouldn't let him just run around and do what he wanted to do the whole time. In his defense I may have been a little hard on him. He is one of the two oldest kids in the class and so I think I expected him to be more patient and understanding. It was probably unfair of me to put that on him. I am hoping this will be a good learning experience for both of us. The county has such great programs and I would like for him to try a bunch of different things in the coming year. He is aging out of Gymboree when he turns 3 so here's hoping things like gymnastics and swim and eventually sports will fill that void.
Tomorrow I am going to the South Lawn for a ceremony for the Pope. I got a ticket in the staff lottery at work and was going to give it away but my coworkers convinced me to go with them. It is going to be crazy trying to get there at the butt-crack of dawn. There will be a lot of waiting around. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
I am looking forward to October. We have a lot of fun things planned, culminating in Halloween, which is on a Saturday and will mean less of a rushed evening. The boys are dressing up as dinosaurs. I can't wait!
