Furlough, Day 3

Yesterday I got out of the house for a bit. My friend, who is also furloughed currently, picked me up and we had lunch with another friend who is on maternity leave. How amazing it was to me to hold her 2 month old daughter who weighed light as a feather. I can't imagine that Declan was ever that light (and he was at some point). We all had dinner together at the dining room table after the boys got home. That was kind of nice. Today I am going to work on packing up some boxes and try not to be annoyed at Congress.

On the house front it seems we will be pushing back our closing date a week. That isn't because of the shutdown though, it is because the seller is requesting extra time to do the things we amended the contract with after our inspection. We are willing to agree to the push back but only if they are willing to pay the daily cost of extending our rate lock which will now expire before the new closing date. Hopefully this won't be a big deal. As far as our loan, at least for now it looks like as long as they will be able to verbally confirm employment prior to closing, our new mortgage will get funded. Fortunately there is someone at my agency who was excepted for service and can provide this confirmation.

Of course, like everyone else, I am really wondering how long this is going to linger on. How long can our leaders expect people to go without pay? The amount of money this will end up costing our country in the long run is just unfathomable to me.
