Another Summer

It will continue to be warm here for another month or so. Then fall will really set in but school is back in session in Virginia today and Pinterest is teaming with Halloween related projects so it must be that time of year. That reminds me actually, I need to get the little guy's costume put together. I digress...

There has been a lot of personal speculation about what I would do about my job once we move and have a second kid. Without getting into too much detail I will just say that in the 8 years (yes, 8!) since I have been at my job the scope of it has changed and started to be less focused on the work I really wanted to be doing. I have learned a lot of new stuff but lately I have been having a hard time seeing myself here for any length of time after we have our second kiddo. Then something kind of interesting happened. My boss came in one afternoon last week and told me that it had been requested that I take on the role of putting graphics together for one of our other components and that the agency was prepared to send me to training to make this happen. He seemed to feel as though this would be a burden to me but I was thrilled. I have loved dabbling in graphics. As you might recall I designed all of our wedding stationary myself and have done a few other projects too. I am a total amateur and will need some help figuring things out along the way but this is just the opportunity I have been waiting for that I wouldn't have been able to get by going to another job. I'm very excited, not to mention my boss said this could eventually (when the budget finally improves) lead to a promotion for me. As with everything I will have to see how things go but handling graphics for our entire agency would be amazing, especially considering we don't have someone in house to do it. I just hope I can eventually live up to expectations given I have no formal background in graphic design.

The weekend was fantastic, tiring, but fantastic. Friday I was off and cleaned a bit and relaxed before meeting the boys at a happy hour to catch up with friends of ours who moved to Denver last year. It was great to see them and meet their daughter who is three weeks older than Declan. On Saturday afternoon an old friend of mine and her family came down to grill out with us at our pool. The weather cooperated this time and a good time was had by all. Sunday's activities were similar, one of our other couple friends came over for swimming and grilling. Declan definitely enjoyed all the pool time and was very well-behaved both days. Yesterday we mostly just relaxed. The little guy was worn out and falling asleep by 7pm so he went to bed early and didn't make a peep until I got him up this morning. He was working so hard on trying to become mobile over the weekend. He's got the army crawl thing down and he rocks back and forth on all fours a lot. I think it is only a matter of days before he figures this whole thing out.
