This Week

It has been an interesting week. Work is slow, slow, slow. I've been researching a whole slew of things and have been completely inspired by a number of them. I'm going to get a little heavy for a moment, hope you guys don't mind. I had a very frank discussion with my wonderful husband while we were on vacation about how I just wasn't feeling very happy with certain aspects of my life. I'm more than happy with our marriage, I'm happy with the lifestyle we live and I'll say I'm content with work (for the time being). I just haven't been feeling completely happy with myself. I told him I needed to get back into a more regular routine of exercise which always seems to help get me out of funk. I am the kind of person who dwells on things. I have way too much anxiety regarding how I think people feel about me (note the word "think"). I'm constantly trying to please others and frankly I'm annoyed at myself for being this way because it just leads to unneccessary let downs. I need to take some of that energy and focus it towards more meaningful things. In short, I need to learn how to look at the bigger picture.

I've been doing a lot of research this week on some of the world's problems and it has given me something bigger to focus on. It's amazing how easy it is to forget about all of your own trivial concerns when you realize that millions of others are living a very difficult life and not feeling sorry for themselves about it one bit. I'm not really sure yet how I am going to get myself more involved other than with year-end charitable donations, but it feels good just to know so many possibilities exist.

So I also watched this. I'd been meaning to watch this for quite some time but I think I procrastinated because I knew what the result was going to be. I won't get into the details but let's just say I now have an eyebrow raised at the food industry and will be making some different choices for myself as a result.

I went to dinner with 3 of my lovely ladies last night. It was really great to hang out with them and just talk about whatever. The three of them are in training for the same race, two of them the National Half Marathon and one of them the full marathon. This is the same race I was training for this past winter. It was fun to hear their experiences with training so far and offer words of support. My distances won't be getting above 4 miles any time soon but I told them I'd be along the course to cheer them on and bring whatever supplies they might need. We ate at the Lebanese Taverna in Tysons Corner. The restaurant is actually in the Galleria, which I mildly can't stand because it wreaks of pretentiousness, but the restaurants there are all very good. It also houses a J. Crew and an Anthropologie store, can't complain too much about those guys. There is actually a Lebanese Taverna very close to where we live and I'd heard nothing but good things about it but we have neglected to go. Now I'm hooked and I'm dying to try more of their menu. I might drag Jake down there tomorrow evening just because I feel the need to educate him about it.

So yeah, sorry for the kind of random post about how the week has been going. I'm looking forward to seeing Jake when I get home from work, I've missed him despite the fact that it's been twice as easy to keep the condo tidy. And now I'm going to dive into my leftover stuffed vegetables from last night's dinner. Yum!
