Well, it was a good idea

I signed up for the Hot Chocolate 5k being run at National Harbor the first weekend of December. At the time it seemed like a really great idea. Run the race, indulge in chocolate afterwards. How bad could it be? I encouraged Jake to sign up too. And he told me he had. That is until he realized that he went to the website but neglected to actually sign up for the race. By the time he realized he wasn't actually registered it was sold out. Hopefully I can track down a few of the other people I know running it or I'll have to eat chocolate alone, which isn't a terrible thing but it's not a terribly fun thing either.

To make matters more interesting they have apparently completely manipulated the parking situation. Jake can't even drive with me over to National Harbor to spectate because they are requiring that cars parked in lots near National Harbor be runner carpools. The other option is to get a free shuttle from Crystal City which fortunately is close enough to where we live (and near the Metro) that I won't have to pay the $10 (in addition to the race fee) to park in any of their lots that day. (Well, one is free but still requires carpooling.) Jake can't take the shuttle and there's no Metro to National Harbor so I suppose he's staying home that morning. Unless I can convince him to bike over... now that's an idea. He's my #1 fan you know. I've gone to races alone before and it's fine but there's something terribly anti-climactic about bursting across the finish and having no one to celebrate with.

I've been doing a lot of interval work on the treadmill lately in addition to my outside runs with Dublin so I'm hoping to improve a little on my 9:15 pace. We'll see, I have a month to go.
