It had been rainy the evening before in Caceres and the temps were down. Fortunately as we climbed the mountain towards Marvao, both in the car and on foot, the rain let up and we had a nice dry period of time to explore, in jeans and a jacket. It was fantastic none-the-less. Frommers mentioned in our guidebook that if you only have time to see one border town/castle it should be Marvao and they are right.
The little town, within the city walls was equally as charming. Like a small version of Santorini without the blue or Mediterranean view. We wandered around for a while after exploring the castle. It was a very nice little break in our drive.
We continued on from Marvao to Castelo de Vide, on the next mountain over, but unfortuately the rain started up again. After a brief jaunt through town and up to the castle roof we returned to the shelter of our rental car and pushed on to Lisbon.
