We have been very lucky that for the most part we have been able to reuse all of Declan's clothes for Evan. He got a few new things that were just for him but this has saved us a lot. Of course not everything has worked out perfectly in this respect. Season-wise Evan has 2 months on Declan and they grew at about the same rate so by the end of summer I was barely squeezing him into Declan's 9-month summer outfits. Thank goodness the length of shorts doesn't matter too much. I realized as I changed things out seasonally that I over-purchased for Declan's second winter so there is plenty for Evan to wear until spring rolls around in the 12-month to 24-month range. That said, this morning it occurred to me that I would need to buy a pair of winter boots for Evan. Declan wasn't walking until he was 15-16 months old, well past the time for snow in 2014. Evan began really walking consistently just a couple of weeks ago at 13 months, much to my surprise. With Declan I was able to bundle him up and take him out on a snow sled without worrying about his feet (I used thick socks and heavy booties). Evan, on the other hand, will hopefully be toddling through this winter's snow (given we get some), so I ordered him a brand new pair of boots. I am excited because not only does that make taking them out to play easier, but I know that Declan is going to really love and be into snow this year.
On a side note, Declan served as my co-pilot this past weekend on my weekly grocery shopping trip. While checking out I saw Declan get wide-eyed at the man behind us. He pointed and when I looked I saw the man with a rather tall Elsa mylar balloon. Declan was intrigued by it for sure. When I asked him if he knew who that was he said no. This is a parenting win in my book, ha ha ha!
