Happy birthday!

My older brother was the kind of brother who watched out for me since before we can both remember. My mom likes to tell the story of how he was expecting the baby she was carrying was going to be a kid, his age, that he could play with right off the bat. After his initial disappointment he proudly told the world about his "sister-baby". He was never one to let my mom get too far ahead of me if we were out at a store. He spoke for me, telling people my hair was red because I ate a lot of hot dogs with ketchup. He selflessly allowed me to come up with all of our hair-brained schemes and followed through with them, inevitably getting us both in trouble. During our teen and young adult days he was the watchful older brother without being too upfront about it. I could always count on him to tell me that "that guy wasn't right/cool/good enough for you anyway". He has never been jealous of me for anything. He allowed me to tagalong and be "one of the guys" with his friends (and made sure to tell me when they called me "Scott's hot sister"). We talk/text nearly every day now and he frequently tells me what a good job Jake and I are doing as parents although I am often doubting myself. I honestly don't know what I'd do without him and I miss having him in closer proximity every day.

My brother is 39+2 today. Phoenix is so lucky.
