Transitions

Work continues to be swamped and will probably stay that way until I go on leave in a little over a month. The days fly by but it is mentally exhausting on top of the fact that I am already tired as a result of not enough sleep and hormones. I am very much looking forward to my time at home my newly expanded family.

We were very productive this past weekend. Declan got some time in with the grandparents and we went furniture shopping before getting some more work done around the house. We did take time out to go to dinner in honor of my birthday and our 5-year anniversary. Our Jamaica trip was the bigger celebration but given how I feel now I am glad we went in April.

Currently we have Declan's "big boy bed" which for now is a mattress on the floor, set up in his room with new bedding and everything. The crib is still in there but we put the toddler rail on the front after his nap Sunday afternoon. This means that he has free reign of his bedroom. He is starting to enjoy "playing" in his room in which he mostly likes hiding in the closet. We were curious to see how things would go at night given his new freedom and so far, so good. Sunday night he spent the first 5 minutes after being put to bed climbing in and out of the crib before climbing in and curling up to fall asleep. In the morning Jake said he stayed in the crib until he came to get him up. Last night he didn't even climb out after he was put to bed. He did his usual sitting and playing with his stuffed friends until he fell asleep. So now I am curious and optimistic that this behavior will continue. If it does then next week sometime we will put him in the "big boy bed" instead of the crib and see how he handles that. If that goes well then it will be time to "hide" the crib in the nursery. The one thing I am trying to avoid is him feeling as if we are taking it away from him for this new baby so hopefully we can move it out of his room soon and get it out of his mind.
