Perseverance

I was off on Friday and I spent my morning walking around Georgetown working on my self-imposed 50mm lens challenge. It was harder then I thought to work with a fixed length lens but I think I got a few good shots. I am learning that the lens is better for shooting people than scenery but it is great practice for looking at things differently. Once I have time to make some edits I will share some of the results.

When I got home I started working on laundry and decided to inventory my jeans drawer. The normal jeans I had been wearing up to this point (once I got back into them after Declan came) are starting to now fall into the "mom jeans" category. They fit very comfortably after a trip through the dry cycle but within an hour or so of wearing them they are stretched out and baggy looking. It's disappointing because they are from J Crew, all three pairs, so they weren't cheap but they make me look a little disheveled. I dug a little deeper and pulled out a pair of jeans that I had been thinking about but were afraid to try on. At the end of 2009, yes 2009, I did something you should really never do when it comes to clothing. I ordered a gorgeous pair of designer jeans, on sale. When they arrived and were too small I kept them instead of sending them back. You should never really do this because it is typically a total waste. I held them up and decided, what-the-heck, and pulled them on. Three years later, unbelievably, they fit. I was so stoked I can't even begin to tell you. This is the first time that my foolish behavior with clothes has worked out in my favor. Of course it is three years later, but still. I guess self-restraint and healthy eating pays off. There was one more pair in there that I also gave a go but they weren't quite ready yet. Hopefully in another month all the jeans in the drawer will fit.

The weekend was busy but we all enjoyed it a lot, including the little guy. He was very go-with-the-flow as we took him downtown for the first time on Saturday morning and then out for dim sum later that evening. I do look forward to him being able to sit in a high chair at restaurants instead of his car seat carrier thingy, even if he's not eating the food there. Yesterday we spent Easter with my parents and even got a Skype call in with my brother and sis-in-law who my parents are headed out to visit tomorrow. We were all exhausted by the end of the day yesterday so Declan went to bed a little early as did both of us. And spring finally seems to have arrived in the DC area. The sun is out and the temperature is over 60 degrees. I don't think I could ask for more than that right now.
