Bean Pole

The verdict from yesterday's check-up is that Declan is still a big baby. Of course, we knew that. I can look at my arm muscles and see that. I believe that his percentiles have switched from the last appointment. At 2 3/4 months he was 98th for weight and 97th for height. At 4 1/2 months he is now 97th for weight at 18 pounds 15 ounces and 98th for height at 28 1/4" long. He has an adorable amount of chub on him but isn't overly chubby so we are still curious to see if ends up being more of a tall, lanky kid. Anything could happen of course and now that he's starting to move more I know his growth will taper off a little. He grew 2 pounds and 2 inches though since his previous appointment.

We plan to start trying solid foods with him after next week when he hits 5 months. I'm anxious to see how he takes to this next step. He hasn't been too picky about his food thus far so we'll see. You may be wondering what I mean given all his meals are pretty much the same. I didn't really discuss how we've been feeding the little guy too much because it's kind of a personal issue. We supplemented with formula pretty much from the start after he spent the first two days of his life being fed formula in the NICU. He never had any problem with going between formula and breast milk and easily switched to all formula once I headed back to the office. We were able to save a little because the Target store brand version of Similac Advanced sat well with his stomach. I can only hope that he's as easily adaptable to solids now that we're reaching that point. He's going to make a mess, I just know it.
