Jumpy

In past years we have opted to start Dublin's flea and tick treatments in April. This year it has been so chilly out that we didn't even think about it until a couple of weeks ago. I ordered 6 months of the topical treatment and we decided we'd start it on May 1st. Then on Friday I found a tick on her face. After removing it I decided we should probably go ahead and put the stuff on her. Our big problem is that she hates it. You wouldn't think that dabbing six little dots of liquid along her back would be a big deal but she freaks out. We have to do it outside because if she shakes while it is still wet the stuff goes everywhere. At least this year I am not pregnant and I can actually handle the stuff. It took half of our walk for me to get the stuff on her. She kept jumping around and she didn't trust me enough to stop and squat to pee. I had to show her my empty hands after the tube was empty and thrown away and then she decided it was safe to do her business. Thing is that if she stops to go while I'm still trying to put it on her I won't do it then. I respect her need to do her business uninterrupted. We've tried a number of things, one of us holding her while the other puts it on, distracting her with treats and offering positive reinforcement, she still freaks out every time. I suppose that one walk per month for only 6 months out of the year isn't so bad but I do wish she'd be more accepting. It could be over with so quickly!
