Ha ha! I meant to post this yesterday but didn't get the chance. Aaaahhh, being busy again.
My large format printer is giving me issues this morning. I think it is mad that I abandoned it for 14 weeks and now suddenly expect it to work. While it resolves itself from a temper tantrum I will share a few thoughts on the less exciting parts of new parenthood.
I knew, before I even got pregnant, that we would be setting up a 529 Virginia college savings plan for the little guy. I would have done this already if they let you before the child is born. Unfortunately they do not. That was the only "paperwork" type of task I had even really thought about. Then he was born, and all of the sudden there were all these things to take care of. First was the big life insurance search. Neither of us were carrying much through work, just enough to cover the expenses if something happened to one of us and a little extra. Suddenly we realized that if something were to happen to one of us the other might need a little help to keep things going smoothly. Heaven forbid if something were to happen to both of us we wanted to make sure that Declan's caretakers were given some help and that there would be some money for his future. This involved some real research on amounts and options as well as a medical exam but we got it in place. I also set up a savings account for the little guy aside from his college savings account. It is a children's account so he will be able to log in and see what is in there but only Jake or I can withdrawal money from it for the time being. The other thing we haven't done yet is put together a will. We've talked about it but just haven't had a chance to find someone to put it together for us. I hope we can get that taken care of in the next month or so. Then I think we will have some peace of mind knowing the little guy (and his eventual future sibling) will be taken care of if we aren't around to do it.
