As If

Tomorrow we hit 38 weeks. Week 37 hasn't been much of a picnic I must admit. I can't complain too much given how easy I've had it up to this point but still. The sciatic nerve that serves my right leg started to majorly get the pinch. It became inflamed causing me a great deal of pain while walking, standing, sitting, sleeping (or trying to). I tried cold, heat, stretches and nothing helped. For two days I was in a pretty bummed out state because I wasn't sure how I was going to make it to the end in that much pain. Then I sucked it up and took some generic Tylenol in enough of a dosage to finally offer me some relief. I couldn't believe what a difference it made not just in the pain but my overall mood, thank goodness for that.

Add to this the futility of the last ultrasound on Wednesday morning and I was not a happy camper. I wasn't really thinking back at 31 weeks but I should have declined the recommendation to come back. All it succeeded in was adding to my worry. At 37 weeks the ultrasound has an estimated error of 1lb 6oz. Keep that number in mind as I tell you that they estimated (the key word being estimated) the baby to be at 9lbs 7oz, with 2 1/2 weeks to go until the due date. Even at the low end that means he would be over 8lbs already. Of course the doc at the ultrasound place didn't offer any reassurance that this wouldn't cause any problems with delivery or anything. I mean people push out 10 pound babies all the time, right? They did say that he's "tall" rather than chunky which is what they first told me when they realized he was measuring ahead of schedule. Wednesday was my day to be freaked out about this. Now I'm just taking it as a gross over-estimation and a sign they hopefully they won't let me go too far beyond my due date. The one really cool thing about the 37 week ultrasound was actually being able to see the little guy practicing breathing. It means he'll be well-equipped when he does decide to arrive. Needless to say though, I am not going for anymore ultrasounds even if my OB's office recommends it. I hate technology sometimes.

We've decided to treat this weekend as if it will be the last one before he arrives. It's possible we could have next weekend too but just in case we are going to spend quality time together, finish up with the final preparations, stock up our pantry, fridge and freezer and just relax. We're going to put a few movies on our tablet, make sure our bag is packed as much as it can be ahead of time and just try to mentally prepare. I've taken myself off of my alternate work schedule and won't have any more Fridays off for a while (actually that's not true, I have a plethora of Fridays off ahead, ha ha!). The trade off is that I get to leave work an hour earlier. If I make it through next week at the office I am planning on going on telework after that so I can be home should labor start during the day.

By the way, if anyone has seen my ankles, I would like them back please. They seem to have disappeared.

I've enjoyed reading your posts about your pregnancy, you are in the home stretch now! Try not to worry about his weight...Payton was 9 lbs and I couldn't believe that I carried a baby that big! I didn't have a late ultrasound, but my OB estimated her weight at around 6-7lbs, so imagine my surprise when she was born. Enjoy your last few weeks just you and Jake! Looking forward to reading about his arrival soon :)
