A Taste of Summer

The weather this weekend was absolutely fantastic. Couldn't have asked for better, really. On Friday evening we reunited with one of Jake's coworkers who has been living in London for over 3 years now. It was really good to see her and a great crowd of people gathered. On Saturday Jake had soccer practice for a new weekend league he's playing in. I made some goat cheese turkey burgers while he was gone and we took them over to a rooftop party later in the afternoon. Our friends Ben and Stacy are moving to Denver in a few weeks so they had a going away BBQ party. It was the perfect afternoon, mild but overcast so no worries of sunburn. I had never made goat cheese stuffed turkey burgers before but they were pretty good. There wasn't a specific recipe, I just winged it. It's funny, we met Ben and Stacy last summer on a beer cruise, Fourth of July weekend. It was a Living Social deal and they sat at our table with us. We found they are a lot like us and we clicked with them right away. It was the first time we really "picked up" another couple. I'm sad to see them go but perhaps this now gives us more reason to visit people we know living in Denver.

Yesterday we took two long walks with the dog to enjoy the weather. We also began working on our first furniture refurbish project. I rescued a small cabinet thingy from the garbage room about a month ago with the intent of trying to turn it into a funky liquor cabinet. It needed some help in the stabilization department before refinishing it so yesterday we put some brackets on it and removed the feet on it before wiping it down. I need to track down some new knobs and hinges for it. The next nice weekend day we have will be spent sanding and painting it. I'm documenting the process so I'll have some before and after pictures to share IF it turns out well. We might fail and decide that furniture rehabbing is not a good hobby for us, but I'm hoping not.

Temperatures are staying warm here again today although some humidity has crept in. It's going to cool back down tomorrow but just down to more spring-like temps for this area. It's nice to pull short sleeves and flip flops out of the closet. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
