Aaahhh, where to start... It has been a busy week. Today is the first day I have physically been in my office. Happy Cinco de Mayo, by the way! I shared tamales with my new office neighbors, who happen to be our agency's lawyers, and it was really nice. I made cinnamon sugar cookies in lieu of real churros. Now I am on the treadmill desk walking it all off.
On Sunday we packed up the boys and went up to Baltimore for Day Out with Thomas at the B&O Railroad Museum. It was rainy but we made the best of it. The museum is really great, with or without Thomas, but he added to the fun. The boys enjoyed checking out real trains, playing with train toys and a ride. Granted the ride was in retired MARC commuter cars hooked to a train with a large, animated Thomas façade, but Declan especially enjoyed it very much. The scenery of west Baltimore leaves a little to be desired but overall a wonderful experience. Afterwards we popped over to visit friends who live in the city that we haven't had the opportunity to see since their youngest and our youngest were both in utero. It was so, so nice to catch up while the kids played and napped. Declan was exhausted and a little (okay a lot) more whiny than normal, but he powered through. He fell asleep 5 minutes into the drive home and stayed asleep the whole way.
On Tuesday I took the day off and we took the boys to the dentist for their 6 month checkups. Both boys did great! Again, it was wonderful to hear from the dentist that the spacing between Declan's teeth indicates that he is highly unlikely to need braces or other orthodontia going into his older years. This will obviously be a great savings for us but also less of a hassle for him. The oral hygienist actually told me that sometimes nowadays they actually remove wisdom teeth as early as age 14, before they have erupted and even if they aren't impacted, because it saves the hassle of teeth being pushed out of alignment. Wish someone had done that for me! We took the boys to lunch afterwards and then home to play with their balloons and "good behavior" prized from the dentist office.
Yesterday morning I took Evan to the pediatric ophthalmologist. He has had issues in the past with eye drainage and we were concerned that his tear ducts were blocked. They dilated his eyes and had a good look. They aren't blocked but they are on the narrow side the doctor said. She also was able to tell that he has astigmatism in both eyes (thanks daddy and grandma). They won't do surgery on his ducts because they aren't actually blocked and the symptoms are less frequent than warrants surgery. She said it seems as though he tears a lot though and it is likely, due to that and his eczema, that he will have allergies. Poor kid. The astigmatism may or may not affect his vision growing up, we will have to wait and see if he needs glasses/contacts or not. For now I am pretty sure his vision is pretty good.
And now I am back to the grind but tomorrow is already Friday! Will check in tomorrow with the week's outfit.
