What I Learned Yesterday

Yesterday both boys had their first dental appointment. In reality it was probably a little on the late side (age-wise) for Declan to have his first and a little early for Evan. At least that is my opinion, however apparently they recommend going within 6 months of the first tooth eruption. They both did amazingly well. The pediatric practice I chose was recommended to me by a friend who takes her kids there. It was incredibly well-equipped. There was a play area with movie playing, video games and toys. Each boy was given a balloon, toothbrush and toothpaste. They also took their photos and put together a little "first visit" memento for them. It was pretty awesome. Both of their mouths are apparently the picture of health. The dentist commented that both boys have very good spacing between their teeth, particularly Declan who has all his baby teeth now. Apparently kids who have good spacing between their baby teeth are much less likely to need braces because there is a lot of room for their adult teeth when they come in. This is not something I would have ever thought about. They apparently got Jake's dental genes, he never had to have braces. So here's hoping that we luck out on that front. Orthodontia is no joke.

Afterwards we took advantage of having taken the day off to go to Cox Farms Fall Festival. That place is a total zoo on fall weekends but yesterday was perfect. It was cool and threatening rain. It never rained and after the school groups headed out in the early afternoon the place was a dream. Declan rode slide after slide after slide until he could barely pull himself up another hill. It was so fun and all evening he kept asking to go back. Next year kiddo, next year.
