I am realizing since having boys that there are probably some things I need to learn up on as they get older. Up to this point in my life I have never broken a bone and I have never had to have stitches. I have no idea what the threshold is for needing stitches. I feel like it should be obvious but then something happens and I have no idea. Last week as I was rushing to get home and go pick up the boys I tripped and chin-planted on the sidewalk. I ended up mostly unscathed with the exception of a sort of significant wound on my chin that bled profusely for only about 10 minutes. I am thinking I probably needed to go get stitches but with Jake at work events and me having to take care of Evan and Declan, there was no way I was going to get myself to urgent care for something that was easily covered by a large bandaid. Jake eventually put butterfly tape on it later that evening and that definitely helped close it up but I still wonder if stitches would have helped.
I tend to be a little more nonchalant about stuff like that when it happens to myself. With the boys I know that I will likely be much more inclined to cart everyone off to urgent care because as a mom that is my job. I can only hope that they can keep those instances to a minimum but kids play and these things will happen. For myself, I can only try to make a point to slow down and pay more attention to where I am going.
