He's working hard these days to push those teeth in. I'm still amazed, it seems so soon. We haven't even given him any solid foods yet, although we are going to inquire with the pediatrician about that tomorrow. Sophie is by far his favorite teething toy and also the only one that he smiles at when I hold it up in front of him. He reaches for her readily.
A lot of changes have come our way in the past week. First there was discovery of the teeth accompanied by even more drool and red cheeks and nose. At least now we know what to look for with regards to signs of teething. The redness is unmistakable on his fair skin. He's also been moving around his crib a lot, often relocating himself from the center to the edge and rotating up to 180 degrees. On Friday evening though he began the next step. Despite the fact that he's not the biggest fan of being on his tummy he figured out how to roll from his back to his tummy. Unlike his ability to roll in the other direction this skill was repeated over and over during the course of the weekend. We were worried because once he gets on his tummy he doesn't seem to be able to then figure out how to roll back over despite having done it a number of times. Regardless, on Saturday during the night he rolled himself over and fell back asleep. This led to him sleeping an extra hour longer than he normally does. Who would have thought? Jake and I aren't completely comfortable with the idea of him sleeping on his tummy but from what I've read, once they can put themselves there it is typically an okay sleep position.
I got him these sunglasses because it seems his eyes are a little sensitive to the sun right now. We put a stick-on shade on the car window but that doesn't seem to help enough so I got him a couple of pairs of sunnies. These will work great for this summer. The black pair I got are a little large so they are in back-up. I suppose I should have had the foresight to order a couple of pairs since children and parents tend to easily lose things like sunglasses. Carter's is forever having sales though so it shouldn't be a problem. He looks kind of grown up here and it's kind of killing me a little, ha ha!
He's really been appreciating his sense of touch lately. Jake took note of Declan running his hand repeatedly over the shoulder of the fleece he was wearing. He's also a big fan of the silky underside of the "lovey" blanket my grandmother gave him. It's so interesting watching him take it all in. He's also a big fan of being "startled". I repeatedly dropped him towards Jake's face while Jake made faces at him and he giggled with delight again and again. Tomorrow we will find out what he's up to, growth-wise. As you can see from the picture above even with bent knees the feet on his pajamas were being stretched so the 6-monthers were packed up and the 9-monthers were transitioned into the dresser. He's still fitting the rest of his 6-month clothes just fine, thankfully.
And of course the little guy makes a great practice subject for me with my camera (although not above, those are all cell phone shots). I'm starting a 50mm lens challenge this week in which I am going to go out with just my non-zoomable 50mm f/1.8 lens and see what I can get. I already got some really great ones of him during our weekly photo shoot on Saturday and I'll share once I get them cleaned up in Photoshop.
It snowed this morning. It is March 25th. Easter is on Sunday. Daffodils and crocus are blooming in the neighborhood. I am so confused.
