Checking In

Hi folks! Things have been very busy the past few weeks and I'll admit it has been nice not to stress over the blog but things at work have calmed down for a few minutes so I thought I'd put up a real quick update. The photos are from my phone so they aren't the best, BUT, I'm getting a new phone, maybe this week so that will improve in the future. I decided to forego the new iPhone and switch to the latest Samsung Droid phone on Verizon. So it'll be buh-bye AT&T, been nice knowing you. Anyway here we go...

First off I must mention that fun things like this have begun to filter into our home. My mom laughed and commented that our kid would not be a nerd. Little does she know. I feel like the growth spurts have really hit going from the 2nd and into the 3rd trimester. (Disclosure, I did finally go up a cup size, wooo!) I feel pretty good but am fitting less food into my stomach these days. I have been trying to learn to eat slower so as not to stuff myself because it's uncomfortable! My energy levels are good though and I'm walking, a lot, as well as doing a lot around the house.
We've been watching a lot of the Olympics. I helped my friend Maureen make these delicious Olympic rings cookies for the opening ceremonies which I watched at her house. Can't say I loved or even understood the ceremonies but many of the events have been very exciting to watch. I'm also pretty sure that our little boy is vying for a medal in either mens' gymnastics or judo.
A couple of Saturdays ago we spent the hottest day ever in Baltimore to watch Liverpool play Tottenham LIVE at Ravens Stadium. These are my ladies from Boston and we had a really great day. I drank tons of water and managed to keep my energy up the whole day despite the heat. I miss these guys and hope to see them sometime again soon. Did I mention getting to see the LFC players in person? Awesome. Andy Carroll is my new crush.
Last week some contractors working in my office building left a diesel generator running on our roof which stunk up the place pretty badly. GSA's air quality survey deemed our workspace safe but I, personally, was strongly urged to go home and telework. This was my first time working remotely and for the most part it worked out pretty well. As you can see above I had the laziest coworker ever. And sadly in addition to some network issues I was already having at work, taking my laptop home caused it to crash upon arrival back at the office. On the upside I was furnished with a brand new Windows 7 machine. Score!
Finally I will say that things around the house are coming together quite nicely. We got our hands on the last of the dresser that we wanted (on sale!!) at the Ikea in Woodbridge to use as our changing table and eventually dresser for kid number 2. I still got to do a little at home refurbishing though even though we didn't buy a second hand dresser. This is Jake's old chest of drawers that he bought right after graduation. I sanded it down and painted it in this cool dark brown and light blue racing stripe scheme. It took some work (3 days!) but we love the result. The blue actually is a little darker, in this photo it looks almost white because of poor light. The handles are on their way from Home Depot. While I worked on this in a more ventilated area Jake painted the nursery light blue. It's pretty well cleared out and once he assembles the Ikea dresser we'll have a better idea of how the room is going to be laid out. We're going back to crazy-town, I mean Ikea, on Saturday for shelves and a few other things and the crib is going to be ordered once we return from Maine in a couple of weeks! I have a bunch of decorating ideas aside from the shelves and I can't wait to see how the room turns out when it's finished. With the room cleaned out we now have a place to store all of the kid-stuff that we adopted from friends.  Previously it was just kind of sitting around everywhere. Things are much more organized now, thankfully.

So I think that's it for now. We're starting to brainstorm for our trip to Maine in a couple of weeks. I planned out our meals for the week so next week will be filled with food shopping and some additional prep. I'm looking forward to a relaxing week. Until next time folks! Thanks for staying tuned!
