So the little guy found my diaphragm this morning. It was the oddest sensation with some shortness of breath mixed it. I was surprised his reach was that far at only 22 weeks but I was lying down. This is the first week that I have felt actual movement other than just flutters (like jacuzzi bubbles but on the inside). Since I have an anterior placenta a lot of the movement up to this point has been buffered from me feeling it. I actually thought it would be at least 2 to 3 more weeks before I felt anything significant so I'm glad it has started.
I was very lucky that the derecho (new term I learned for a line of very intense storms) that hit mid-Atlantic coast on Friday night did not knock out my power for the weekend. There are still a lot of people in the area without power even today. Jake was off in Atlanta so Dubs and I were happy to be able to stay at home and not find refuge from the heat somewhere else. I managed a pretty productive weekend. I got nearly half the master bathroom floor grout recolored. I have to say I'm pretty impressed. I ordered an Aqua Mix grout colorant kit from Amazon in white. It was time consuming but easy to use and it really makes the floor look brand new as Jake commented. The kit contains a cleaning solution that is used to prep the grout for color. This has to dry for at least an hour then you can apply the colorant which is very similar in consistency and property to a latex-based paint. It sticks to the grout but is easily rubbed off the tile after it dries for about 2 hours. One thin coat seems to be doing the trick. I'll try to post some photos of the floor in process tonight. The colorant also seals the grout so hopefully we won't have more horrible brown staining of it again for a while.
Our plans for the holiday tomorrow are kind of up in the air. With temps predicted to be near 95 degrees staying cool will be very necessary. We're on the list to watch the fireworks in the evening from the South Lawn of the White House. We really enjoyed it the last time we went but knowing what the crowd will be like and the lines to get in through security, we might not risk having to stand in the heat at 6:00pm waiting to get in. Work on our balcony is supposed to be completed today which means we also have the option of watching the fireworks from the comfort of home. We're going to play it by ear and see how the day plays out. Risk of thunderstorms is always another factor. I have definitely decided to make some pulled BBQ chicken for sandwiches though. That has been on my mind for days.
This coming weekend we are venturing up to Connecticut to visit with my friends and go out on their boat. I'm very excited to catch up with them and I have no doubt it will be nicer weather. I'm crossing my fingers that my streak of not hitting traffic en route to their house will continue.
I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July!
