It's my first day back since last week's holiday but it hasn't been so bad. It's been an eventful few days. We spent most of the 4th at our pool with the neighbors. The pool was mostly in the shade for the later part of the afternoon so it was very enjoyable. There was lots of food and our resident DJ Al was playing some great music. Before we knew it, it was 5:30pm and we decided to stay and enjoy ourselves rather than brave the heat and go downtown. It was a good choice I think.

On Thursday I finished recoloring the grout on the bathroom floor. It was a time consuming process but I killed my time in between steps watching The Wonder Years and Dawson's Creek on Netflix. On Friday afternoon we fled up to Connecticut to visit our friends for the weekend. It was overcast up there on Saturday so we were spared the extreme heat of the DC area. My dad said it reached 106.5 according to his thermometer. Just crazy. Unfortunately on Sunday morning we all discovered we'd caught a stomach bug, likely from our friends' toddler daughter. We just lazed around until it was time to head home. The traffic wasn't too bad and we made it back in about 6 hours time. As always it was great to see our friends and catch up with them. I only wish life made it easier to see them more.

So the little guy has gone from mostly flutters to lots of movement a lot of the time now. Jake was able to feel him from the outside for the first time late last week which was awesome. I'm so glad he was finally able to feel this.

And now it's back to the grind at work and time to really put some effort into the nursery. We've got some free weekend days coming up so hopefully we can get moving on it. The area rug arrived as have my curtains, I just need to get a rod for them. I picked out the paint color (I think) so we just need to move the remaining stuff out of the room and get going. I was able to get our registries mostly done. It's on the early side but I had some free time last month so I did a lot of research and attempted to build two thoughtful lists of supplies. It's tough because, well, stuff is cute and you tend to think you need everything when in reality, you don't.
