Slow Progress

Jake was in an organizing mood last night and started using the drawers in our new hallway console table to clean up some clutter from the bar at the end of our kitchen. The old table had no storage so we definitely upgraded. The new table looks like this only it's actually slightly darker:

The cubby spaces at the bottom are pretty big so I plan on getting some nice bins, probably dark wicker, to fill them and use for more storage. One will hold winter accessories and I think I'll leave the others open for eventual toy storage.

I used the Space Bags I bought to condense the contents of our linen closet. We have a ridiculous amount of old sheets and towels, some of which I got rid of, but others I saved since once we move we'll be using the guest bed again. In the meantime we really only needed ready access to two sets of sheets and a couple of extra blankets. We were able to move some of the stuff in the soon-to-be nursery closet into the linen closet as a result. So some progress is being made. I've already ordered room darkening curtains and an area rug for the nursery. I think we're also very close to having my parents order the crib and mattress. Things are coming together. Now I just have to solve the dresser conundrum. I have scoured Craigslist a lot recently looking for a good secondhand dresser to use as a changing table. Everything is either cheap and of a style that I don't like or real wood and very expensive. People around here seem to know when they have something of good quality even if it needs some TLC. It also occured to me that since we're having a boy he would eventually need a chest of drawers, rather than a dresser, so it doesn't really make sense to customize a dresser for him. Luckily for us we have a spare chest in great shape that could just use some paint. We'll buy a dresser to use as a changing table for this kid and the potential next kid and if the next is a girl I'll customize the dresser for her. Now, to find said dresser.

Okay this is getting pretty dull. I'll switch topics. We watched the movie '50/50' on Friday evening. It was really good and didn't have me bawling nearly as much as I was anticipating. On Saturday we went to see 'Brave' (with half the youth population of Alexandria). It was also very good although the story was different from what I was expecting. I think the best part, besides Merida's awesome hair, was the Pixar short they showed before the film called 'La Luna'. I think it's my favorite one I've seen so far.

Oh man, how did it get to be lunchtime already? I do enjoy being busy over not. I hope everyone is having a great week so far.

I had no idea that there was a difference between a "chest of drawers" and a "dresser" ;)

Well and you know that there isn't some rule saying boys have to have one and girls the other, I think that's just an idea I was raised with.

Ah, the things I missed out on learning since I didn't have any brothers. ;)
