On Thursday evening I experimented with dinner. I combined cooked rice with shredded chicken, salsa and shredded cheese. I then filled 4 red bell pepper halves with it, baked them and melted a little cheese on top. It turned out pretty good. I wanted to try and recreate my mom's recipe for stuffed peppers but hers uses ground beef and regular tomato sauce. The salsa gave it a nice kick. Friday was my every-other-off Friday so I spent some time catching up on stuff on the DVR. I now know who won The Voice and can I say that I think Juliet Simms was robbed.
I, personally, think it was kind of cliche for Jermaine Paul to win with "I Believe I Can Fly", but then again Juliet did finish with "Freebird". She was great with it, but who really likes that song? Jake's and my first baby-related purchase, a stroller, arrived on Friday afternoon. We were way more excited about checking it out than I expected. I even joked about pushing the dog around the living room in it but I think she's just slightly above the weight limit. It was an early purchase but it was a limited edition from last year and I wanted to make sure we got one. I then made Jake watch Cruel Intentions which is new to Netflix streaming. He'd never seen it before and had no idea of the terriblenss he'd been missing. On Saturday I took some time to replant our houseplants. They were in need of some larger vessels and fresh dirt. I'm hoping this helps them get a little bigger. I used to have a bunch of houseplants but over the past 5 years they have survived at varying levels and now I'm down to 3 good ones. I should pick up a few more. If anyone has any suggestions on nice houseplants (that aren't spiderplants) let me know. Jake had a bachelor party to attend on Saturday night so I watched Like Crazy, an independent film that won an award at Sundance. It follows the story of two young college students who fall in love but have to deal with a long distance relationship. (Certain friends of mine will tell me that this sounds familiar.) Anna is in L.A. on a student visa. When her visa expires she opts to stay to be with Jacob. She goes back to the U.K. for a wedding a few months later and when she tries to return as a tourist she gets immediately deported. They spend the next few years trying to figure out if they can hold out until they can be together again. It was a good film but like many indy films it had a very anticlimactic ending. Afterwards I caught most of Leap Year on ABCFamily. Yes this is like the 5th time I've watched this. I can't help it. It's really terrible but it's my doppleganger plus my favorite male eye candy plus my favorite country. Sigh.
Yesterday was the end of the English Premier League season and hence dubbed Survival Sunday. There were actually 5 different matches on our cable at 10AM. We watched Manchester City (who was fighting for first place) play Queens Park Rangers (who were fighting not to get relegated back to the 'minors'). Manchester United won their match and thought they had taken the title because Man City was down 1-2 when extra time started but those scrappy chaps scored two goals to beat QPR and become champs for the first time since 1968. Man City is Jake's team so he was pretty stoked, and loud. The neighbors had to wonder what the heck we were watching! The remainder of the afternoon was spent doing things around the house before heading to our favorite Italian restaurant for dinner. And now I'm rounding out my Monday. We've got leftovers of stuffed peppers for dinner tonight and I'm just a little too excited about that.
