Okay so I will start off with some very brief comments regarding the 5k on Saturday morning. Despite the fact that the organization of this event was nearly a failure I somehow managed to run it and finish at a pace of 9:11 per mile. This wasn't the under-9 minutes I was hoping for but given the bottlenecks, my numb toes and the huge incline at the end, I can't complain. I won't go into a tirade here on how this was the most ridiculous excuse for an event ever. I'll let DCist cover it. Too many runners for this venue and poor organization. Never again will I run a race sponsored by RAM.
All other parts of the weekend were pretty fantastic. After the race I met Jake at the pub for the Man City game. The people that were there were very friendly and quite animated so it was a really good time. I got a lot of stuff baked although I still have a couple of recipes left to execute this week. An early trip to Target yesterday netted me a new wreath and some icicle lights for our balcony doors plus supplies to put together my holiday goodie packages for mailing out. The biggest surprise of my days of baking? The vegan chocolate chip cookies I made turned out quite tasty. I was very surprised. They have just a slight nutty flavor you don't find in normal cookies because they contain flax but they're delicious.
Jake did a wonderful job of decorating while I baked. We listened to holiday music. It was really nice. Saturday evening I was so tired I totally crapped out on the couch even though our friends had come over to watch the B1G Ten championship game. Wisconsin won so Jake was happy. Yesterday after I ran my errands I returned to baking while Jake and I discussed our trip. By the end of the evening we had booked our return flight from Queenstown to Auckland for the end of the trip, our rental car, our inter-island ferry crossing and all of our nights of lodging on the North Island. Then my credit card crapped out. I had to call them as they had begun to think the charges were fraudulant. This didn't really bother me at all though because I appreciate that they are watching for things like this.
After a nail-biter of an ending the Packers maintain undefeated status and we watched Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer from our DVR. And Jake woke up with a cold this morning. I'm hoping he doesn't pass it along. I feel like I just got over being sick! It'll be a busy week towards the end with holiday parties Wednesday after work for me, Thursday evening with Jake's company and Friday evening with friends. Did I mention we're doing a sparkling wine tasting next weekend? Pretty excited about that.
If anyone finds my earbuds or my white fleece gloves could you let me know? It seems we have a goblin at home that has taken to stealing my stuff. They are nowhere to be found. Have a great week everyone!
