Progress

First, a confession. I may or may not have broken down yesterday evening and ordered this black sequined shirt from J. Crew.
I know, I know, what the heck? I mean with so many sales and deals around I ordered this?? Bear with me. I wandered onto Rue La La yesterday (which I really had no business doing) and saw this photo advertising their Hudson denim boutique.

So the photo was larger yesterday, sorry. Anyway I loved the way her shirt looks with those dark jeans and I decided I wanted to replicate it. The shirt was not for sale in the boutique and the J. Crew version was the closest I could find. Even better it was on sale. Soooo... yeah. I'm thinking it'll be great for a casual New Year's or other celebration. Yes, I am crazy.

Moving on, I'm happy to report we've made good progress in planning for New Zealand. Jake and I both flagged the heck out of this book and then went back and narrowed down what we really wanted to do and see. He kindly used Google Maps to estimate driving distance between the various cities and voila, we have an itinerary. It's an aggressive one but we know we can, at any time during the trip, cut an activity if we're too tired. I'm now building a list of hotel options along the way so we can book in advance. We definitely haven't put this much effort into a trip since our first trip to Ireland. For that trip we only booked our Dublin hotel on the front end of the trip and then just found places along the way. This was both good and bad as it let us adjust our itinerary if necessary (subbing a stay in Ballycastle instead of Londonderry for example) but it was also a little stressful. Using Hotels.com will allow us to have that all taken care of and paid for in American dollars before we go.

The flags don't indicate Karen vs. Jake, I just ran out of green ones before we finished.

I realized this morning that I'm very much in the holiday spirit. I've assembled all of my recipes for this weekend's baking endeavors and I added chocolate bark and Oreo truffles to the list. Yum! Our tree is up but it needs lights and ornaments. I could see the tree in our balcony door as I walked up the street yesterday but it was all dark. I can't wait to see it all lit up in pretty white lights.

Saturday morning is the Hot Chocolate 5k at National Harbor. I've been mostly a treadmill runner the past month so I'm curious to see how I fare. I've done a lot of speed work, really pushed my limits, hopefully that has helped. The lure of Ghirardelli at the end should also help, motivation-wise. I just hope I can improve on my 9:15 pace from the 5k in Boston. My friend running it with me got engaged a couple of weeks ago so our trip to the Boxwood Tasting room after packet pick-up is even more of a celebration.
