The Inevitable Return

The worst thing about every vacation is that it eventually ends, and usually before you are ready for it to. We had such a good time on our trip and were, fortunately, granted a smooth, on-time flight home and gorgeous weather to welcome us back into the DC area. We had a productive evening of unpacking, laundry and catching up on things. After a while it became anything that would keep us awake since the jet lag was really setting in. I pulled all the photos off both cameras and began going through them in order to rotate those that needed it. I got about 2/3 of the way through before I could barely keep my eyes open. This was around 8:30pm, sigh. We were both snoozing on the couch by 8:45 and finally dragged ourselves back to bed an hour later. And I, of course, was wide awake by 4:00am. Hopefully it only takes one more night to really get back on schedule.

We came home to a Green Bay win, a Redskins loss and the sad news (this morning) that the Brewers will not be advancing to the World Series. They seemed to have so much promise going into the post-season, unfortunately they just couldn't get it together. I know my in-laws are probably pretty disappointed today.

It seems like it's actually going to be a pretty quiet day here at my office. It seems almost unfair. I would have rather come back to a ton of work in order to distract me. Instead I am catching up on research articles in my "to-read" folder and later will likely work through the 1000+ entries waiting for me in Google Reader. At least I know when I get home that a wiggly, happy furball will be there to greet me. I always miss Dublin when we're away, particularly when visiting cities where there seem to be dogs everywhere, like Amsterdam. I won't make any promises about recaps or photos tonight, although I do hope to get photos up on Facebook in the next day or two. There is a huge pile of, now, clean laundry that needs to be addressed first. I will touch on some of the highlights in my next post though.
