So I really thought that I was going to be sitting in some of this both Friday and Sunday this weekend as I made my way up to Connecticut. I suppose I picked a good weekend to travel though because it wasn't the case at all. The weekend after Thanksgiving weekend probably is a great weekend to travel because no one else really is. I made both trips in about 5 hours each, an hour less than what Google maps predicted for me. It was great!
And the visit to my friends was also pretty fantastic. I met the two of them at the time I was dating one of my exes and so when that relationship ended I kind of stepped back so as not to tread where I shouldn't be. J and I kept in touch via email though over the years and I finally decided it was time to pick things back up as far as our friendship was concerned. So I made the drive and had the best time catching up with her and her husband while also meeting their adorable 13-month old daughter (who is one of the happiest babies I think I've ever seen). It was a very fun and heartwarming weekend and I look forward to visiting again and having them meet Jake. I know they will get along great with them. Mostly we just hung out and talked while enjoying some wine but I got a little tour of their town and surrounding area, I met some of their friends up there and even did some wine tasting. It really lifted my already high spirits going into the holiday season. I'm so happy to have them back in my life.
Now I'm back at work and distracted with thoughts of the holidays. All of the holiday shopping for my side of the family has been taken care of so we pretty much just have to shop for my nephew and nieces, the 3 J's. It's so hard picking out kid gifts when you don't know what they already have and don't know what they're in to. My mother-in-law will hopefully offer us some insight this week. Jake was sweet enough to put together our tree while I was gone this weekend (we have a nice artificial tree because of fire code regulations in our county and also now because of the dog). We plan on lighting it up tonight and if it survives the week with Dublin, adding ornaments this coming weekend. I have designed our holiday card for this year and need to work on printing copies or having them printed so that we can get those out in the mail. This is the first year I designed the card myself and it's simple but I like it a lot.
Have a wonderful week everyone. I'll have photos to post soon! image from blog.nj.com
