It was warm on Saturday morning for the 10k in Clarendon and I wasn't sure how my hip was going to cooperate after having some pain earlier in the week.
Lined up in front of Faccia Luna and ready to go. The race went down through Rosslyn onto 110 past the Pentagon and just barely into Pentagon City before returning to Rosslyn, saving us a trip back up the hill. Each racer was given a Metro card to take the train back up to Clarendon for the festivities. This was a nice touch.
This race went way better than I anticipated. I wasn't feeling too bad at all when I finished and I had a pretty decent time. I was surprised that my natural pace settled around 9:30 for this race.
Upon returning to Clarendon the kids dash was about to take off. They were all given bib #1! So cute!
At Whitlow's for the post-party (and happy). My Bondi band today says "Run now - wine later".
Post-race fueling begins!
Sunday brought no-pain (surprisingly) and a rainy morning for the Dash for Dad 10k in Alexandria. It started and finished by the Eisenhower Metro station and traveled north along trails through some of Alexandria's wonderful parks.
This was a wonderful race. It was very well organized, had great snacks and food and the people were all extremely friendly! I kept seeking out the many volunteers along the course who were directing "traffic" to say hello and give a friendly wave.
The crowd at the start, pretty well attended. I hope they raised a lot of money for prostate cancer awareness programs and research.
I started this one at a slower pace as I didn't want to flare up any potential injuries given my busy running schedule the past week. At the halfway point I felt really good and picked it up a bit and then really picked it up for the last mile. I felt great when I finished and was happy to see my time was only slightly slower than yesterday's race, with both finishing just under an hour. I'm still amazed by this!
Since I was soaked and gross and it was too rainy to wander Old Town waiting for our favorite brunch place to open, we stopped on the way home and picked up some goodies for brunch: mimosa, pineapple turnover, apple fritter, whole wheat toast, scrambled eggs and strawberries. Jake assembled all of this for me. He's such a sweetie and is so supportive of my racing!
No more races until late October and thankfully because I need a break!
