This ad bothers me. I see it in three locations on my walk home (this one is in the Pentagon City mall). The girl looks anorexic. I know part of it is the angle of the photo and the drapey top she's wearing but really? And the tagline, "Live in Skinny" which obviously refers to the skinny jeans fashion trend also bothers me. This ad makes me feel like I need to lose 20 pounds and I can only imagine how the vast number of teenagers who visit the mall perceive this ad. This whole look just doesn't appear healthy by any means. Maybe I'm being overly critical but I cringe every time I see this. Sigh.
I definitely have had some issues with self-image but I'm old enough to realize it's all in my head. Being comfortable in your own skin can be a difficult thing to achieve. I wish mass media would realize and rethink ads like this for stores that young people shop in.
