Weekend Re-Hash

It's a little delayed, I've had a slightly busy week so far. Friday evening's dinner at Southside 815 did not disappoint. They had white sangria on special and it was quite tasty. The food here never disappoints us, most notably this time the macaroni and cheese appetizer we started with. Saturday my parents visited and took us to lunch for our anniversary. I highly recommend a slice of the pineapple upside-down cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory. It was to die for. We relaxed the rest of the afternoon in preparation for what I'm deeming the worst 5k ever. Yes, the heat and humidity was part of the issue, but the crowd as well. It was so packed at the start I couldn't move up. By the time I crossed the timing mats the race had been underway for over 2 minutes. This didn't affect my chip time but the crowd did. I never was able to set a decent pace because I kept having to try and find holes with which to pass the slower runners. This went on for the first half of the race and after seeing a 9:00+ time on my watch at mile one I kind of gave up trying. I finished in just under 29 minutes, definitely not the best 5k time for me lately. Darn the media for making that race so popular.

After arriving home we popped our special bottle of champagne and enjoyed it with cupcakes and a movie. On Sunday we hit up our favorite, Chadwick's champagne brunch which I was delighted to see they are now also offering on Saturdays! We were lazy-ing it up in the afternoon, deciding what to do for the evening when a storm rolled through and the power went out. This forced our decision to go to Liberty Tavern for dinner and drinks at the bar. They have some amazing pizza there. We capped the evening with some pineapple basil gelato from Boccato before calling it a night. The power finally came back on around midnight, and thankfully, as we were in need of some AC at that point.

Last night we took Dublin over to the Wylie Wagg dog store in Clarendon for a "reception" for the Arlington's Cutest Dog contest. We didn't stick around long enough to see the winner but we did stick around long enough for Dublin to eat 2 servings of doggie ice cream. That cute face of hers seems to be able to get her anything. It's a great little store with lots of cool toys and treats, all on the gourmet/healthier side. We got her a couple of new ball toys and plan on going back for some of that doggie ice cream soon!
