Variety alone is not enough

Friday evening, after dining at our favorite Mexican restaurant, El Paso Cafe, we headed to the relatively new Lyon Hall restaurant in Clarendon to meet up with friends for drinks. I knew I didn't want to eat here as it is a French restaurant and we really aren't fans of French food at all. They have a very impressive beer list however so I was excited to check it out for drinks. Overall I felt it was kind of lacking. With ample choices of drinks available you'd wonder what could go wrong but it just wasn't a very comfortable place. When I get up the next morning and my throat is hoarse from having to shout to have conversation I know that place isn't for me. They do offer beer flights though, which Jake partook in. I like the idea of it. Of course they were out of one of the four beers in the flight he ordered (plus they were out of the first beer I chose that evening) and the one they chose to replace it with was very fruity and did not fit with the rest of the flight. I can see how some people could really like a place like this but it definitely wasn't for me.

We watched two movies this weekend, the classic "Breakfast at Tiffany's" which neither of us had seen and "Valentine's Day". I enjoyed both and I think Jake tolerated them pretty well. I actually had no idea what "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was about aside from the iconic imagines of Audrey Hepburn that have permanently infiltrated pop culture. It was an interesting love story and we remarked on how the role played by Mickey Rourke would definitely not be considered PC today. "Valentine's Day" was amusing enough to keep Jake interested. It was definitely full of cliche but I give Garry Marshal credit for winding together such a large all-star cast and making it work.
