Summer happy hour

There's just something so enjoyable about happy hour in the summertime, even if you aren't sitting outside. Jake and I met up at Spider Kelly's, my new favorite happy hour place in Clarendon. This place, since it expanded, has become the new "it" place to be in Arlington. One of the local blogs posted a photo recently of a line down the block to get in on a Saturday night while it's neighbor, the Clarendon Ballroom, looked sadly less crowded. Don't get me wrong, I spent a number of great Friday nights at the Clarendon Ballroom in the time I've been living in Arlington but I think lately it's started to lose it's appeal. I don't think I would ever wait in line to get into any bar on a Saturday evening, that's not my style, but I'm glad they're doing so well. Some people feel the place has become too trendy but for happy hour it's right up my alley.

So as you can see from yesterday's post, we decided to partake in some discounted happy hour mojitos. Happy hour goes until 8:00 there which is great for those of us who can't get out of work until at least 5:00. We also enjoyed a couple of sandwiches, Jake's was grilled chicken and mine a shrimp po'boy. It was delicious with crispy onion rings on the side. Jake opted for their mac and cheese which also looked amazing. Their menu is intriguing and varied but full of things I'm interested in trying on subsequent trips. I like having some time for Jake and I to sit and catch up outside of our lovely home and I'm glad we opted for happy hour this week in lieu of a date night.

I'm headed up to New Jersey shortly to attend the wedding of one of my kickball girls this evening. Back in the day we were thick as thieves and were once spotted wearing matching t-shirts. Jake is staying home with Dublin as I'm making the trip with a friend. The wedding is this evening and I'll be back tomorrow in time to catch most of US v. England! I can't believe it's time for World Cup yet again!
